Dental Implants: Changing One Smile At A Time

Few developments have been as game-changing as dental implants have been in the field of restorative dentistry. Dental implants have given dentists all over the world a way to create stronger, longer-lasting teeth replacements.

More importantly, they could change your life.

It’s hard to describe how dental implants make such an impact on patients, but our dentists have seen it happen time and time again here in Port Charlotte, FL.

For someone with missing teeth, dental implants give him or her a stable way to restore a smile. Likewise, the security of dental implants allows patients to eat foods they may have thought they could never eat again.

Attend Our Dental Implants Seminar

Our dentists are convinced that dental implants can make a positive difference for almost any patient who is missing teeth. That’s why Dr. John Dietrich is hosting a public seminar about dental implants.

The seminar is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Jan. 19, 2017, at our office, which is located at 17178 Toledo Blade Blvd. in Port Charlotte, FL. We will be providing refreshments and appetizers, and you will have a chance to meet Dr. Dietrich and other members of our staff.

We intend this to be a casual, fun, and informative evening for everyone who attends. As an added bonus, everyone who attends will receive a free dental exam.

Would you like to find out how you or someone you love could smile with confidence again? Would you like to order what you really want the next time you dine out with family and friends?

Would you like to look 10, even 20 years younger?

Then you owe it to yourself to sign up for our seminar. Call 941-625-7877 to register.

How Dental Implants Came To Be

The story of dental implants is, in a way, a story of a happy accident.

Dr. Per-Ingvar Bränemark, a Swedish physician, was conducting research in the 1950s on blood circulation in rabbits. Sounds exciting, right? As part of this research, he placed titanium cylinders in the leg bones of the rabbits.

Dr. Bränemark’s plan was the remove the cylinders and reuse them throughout the study. Instead, he discovered something he wasn’t expecting.

When he was ready to remove the cylinders, he learned that it wouldn’t be as simple as he thought. The rabbit’s bone had bonded directly to the titanium in a process Dr. Bränemark called osseointegration.

This was a game-changing moment because of what Dr. Bränemark did with this knowledge. He spent years working on dental implants. In 1965, he placed what is considered the first modern dental implants into a human patient.

That patient had those implants for the rest of his life (more than 40 years).

In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Bränemark was inducted into the National Inventor’s Hall of Fame in 2016.

How Dental Implants Are Used Today

Dr. Bränemark’s early implants were just the beginning. In the past 50 years, researchers have made dental implants even better. Dental professionals have developed new techniques that make implant placements more effective.

And dental implants have changed the lives of several patients right here at our Dietrich Dental Services.

This is why dental implants are so important to us. It’s not because of the big picture issues. It’s because of the personal impact they have on the lives of our patients every single day.

We have had patients who were missing an entire row of teeth who regain their ability to smile and to eat thanks to dental implants.

We have also seen how a  dental implant and a  crown can be used to replace a single missing tooth. That may seem small to you, but for some patients, that made a huge difference in their self-confidence.

We could get into the science of dental implants — and we will be happy to answer those questions at our Jan. 19 seminar. But for now, we want to focus on the real-world benefits that come from having dental implants.

It’s not something that’s measured in bite force or jaw density. It’s something that we see on the faces of so many patients after they have received their replacement teeth.

It’s those smiles that convince us how important dental implants can be.
