Dr. John L. Dietrich was born in Aberdeen, MD, but he grew up on Long Island, New York. He received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Fairfield University in Connecticut and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Buffalo in New York. After completing a one-year residency at Erie County Medical Center, he relocated to Florida. He worked in two other practices before he and his wife, Dr. Theodora Kalonaros-Dietrich, opened their current Port Charlotte dental practice in 1985. Besides being highly skilled and trained in general dentistry, Dr. Dietrich has comprehensive training in cosmetic dentistry, implant placement, restorative dentistry, relieving dental anxiety, and treatments for TMJ issues. He takes pride in paying attention to the smallest details in every treatment he does. Dr. Dietrich has served on the Board for the Charlotte County Dental Society, the Florida West Coast District Dental Association, the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, and more. He is a proud member of the American Dental Association, the Florida Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Florida Dental Association, and is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. And by being a member of the Spear Study Club and the Seattle Study Club, Dr. Dietrich continues to study the latest research and training for dentistry. He has also completed the DOCS Oral Sedation Dentistry course in order to offer relaxing treatments to anxious patients.

Dr. Theodora Kalonaros-Dietrich was born and raised in New Jersey until she graduated high school. Her father immigrated to the U.S. from Greece and returned there after retiring, so she moved to Athens, Greece in 1977. After completing the highly competitive entrance exams, she studied at the University of Athens School of Dentistry and received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1982. Dr. Kalonaros-Dietrich returned to the United States to spend a postgraduate year at NYU College of Dentistry in New York City. She met and married Dr. John Dietrich and moved to Florida, where the two opened their own practice in 1985. Dr. Kalonaros-Dietrich is popular with our patients thanks to her caring, compassionate manner. She has extensive training in cosmetic dentistry and restorative dentistry, but is highly qualified in general dentistry as well. She enjoys seeing confidence return to patients after getting their new smiles. As with Dr. Dietrich, she has also taken the DOCS course to provide comfortable care through oral sedation. Dr. Kalonaros-Dietrich has served on the Health Advisory Board for the Charlotte County Public Schools and has been a Sunday school and Greek language teacher in her church for many years. She is a member of the Charlotte County Dental Society, the Florida West Coast District Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Florida Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the American Dental Association.
Dr. Bates is a native of Columbus, Ohio and attended St. Charles Preparatory High School. Upon his graduation, he attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Dr. Bates continued his education at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry, in Nashville, Tennessee in which he earned a Health Professions Scholarship from the United States Air Force and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the USAF dental corps. Dr. Bates graduated from Meharry Medical College with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.After his graduation, Dr. Bates became a Captain in the United States Air Force and competed post-doctoral training in Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency in Biloxi, Mississippi. In the residency Dr. Bates, received advanced training in all aspects of dentistry to include, IV conscious sedation, Oral surgery training, endodontic training, prosthodontic training and dental forensic training.He then honorably served at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama as a dentist for an additional three years serving all branches of service. Dr. Bates then moved back to the Columbus, Ohio area where he has practiced since 2005. Dr. Bates completed an implant residency, is an active member of the American Dental Association, and enjoys all aspects of dentistry. Dr. Bates is married to Shonna Bates and has two children Aleigha 19 and Journey 18 months. They are residing in the Venice area and are looking forward to becoming active members of our community.
